At Premier Israel, we are always looking for new ways to help our community (re)discover the Holy Land and appreciate the Bible from a fresh perspective. This mission has fueled our partnerships with so many incredible teachers, pastors, and Christian bands over the years. One of our latest ventures is to join forces with Rabbi Jason Sobel of Fusion Global for a series of Israel adventures and more.
Before we talk about Rabbi Jason’s popular books and his amazing new show launching this week through Premier, here is a brief introduction (taken from the Fusion Global website) for those who may be unfamiliar with Sobel’s story:
“Raised in a Jewish home in New Jersey, Rabbi Jason Sobel dedicated much of his life to finding truth. After years of seeking and studying, he encountered the Lord and found his true destiny as a Jewish follower of Jesus (Yeshua). Suddenly, all the traditions Rabbi Jason grew up with took on new depth and meaning as God connected ancient wisdom with the teachings of the Messiah.
“Rabbi Jason received his Rabbinic ordination from the UMJC (Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations) in 2005 and has a Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies and a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies. He is also the co-author of the New York Times bestseller The Rock, The Road, and The Rabbi, which he wrote with Kathie Lee Gifford.”
Most people will know Rabbi Jason from this New York Times Bestseller co-written with Kathie Lee Gifford, but there is so much more to his teaching than what one book can contain. Let’s talk about what we can learn from his written work, then we’ll discuss what’s to come with Premier Israel.
Rabbi Jason’s Books
“The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi”
If you have managed to see the Holy Land for yourself, you know how life-changing it can be. Television celebrity host Kathie Lee Gifford is just like us in this regard. Gifford has been to Israel a number of times over the years, first traveling there as a teenager. Within the last decade, seeing the Holy Land became an especially endearing experience for her, which leads us to the publication of “The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi.”
Rabbi Jason and Kathie Lee first met around Christmas 2016 and quickly bonded over, among other things, faith, the Bible, and the Holy Land. This meeting eventually led to the bestselling book, as well as a series of sponsored trips to Israel which seek to help visitors gain new insights on both God’s Word and the setting of the Biblical story.
Through “The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi,” readers walk alongside one of Gifford’s many journeys in the Holy Land with the help of guides like Ray Vander Laan and others. At each holy site or place of significance, Giffords shares her personal thoughts on how the experience enhanced her understanding of the Biblical account before inviting Rabbi Jason to give an in-depth exploration of the topic at hand. Some of the stops along the way include Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, the Mount of Olives, and around two dozen others.
While much of the book is focused on the personal journey of Kathie Lee, there is so much for readers to take away concerning the Holy Land and the Bible. Rabbi Jason provides informative dissections of scripture and the Hebrew language forming our translations of it today. One section of this nature is a breakdown of the Last Supper. From the practice of communion to the traditional celebration of Passover, Christians have much to learn about the significance of this important event.
“The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi” is a wonderful book for all who are interested in the Holy Land, whether you’ve never been able to visit before or you’ve been fortunate enough to travel there many times. The landscape of books about the Holy Land can often be dry or too academic for everyday people. This is one case where readers of all kinds can stay locked in and discover so many great insights on the land of the Bible.
“Breakthrough: Living a Life That Overflows”
In the previous book, Rabbi Jason’s role was that of an expert commentator who elevates the main narrative. With “Breakthrough,” the reader gets a deep dive on what the teacher really wants for you to take away from the Bible.
If you are living your life in defeat and doubt, never feeling like you have a pathway to the abundant life Jesus talks about in John 10:10, this book is designed to help you. Rabbi Jason opens by saying the coming decade is the time in which we as believers are to claim the promises of God and push for breakthrough in our spiritual lives.
In order for us to live “a life that overflows,” we must adopt the perspective of God being our protector, the One from which we find hope, strength, and purpose. Beyond this, we must also learn to throw off the distractions and naysayers who try to keep us from the promises of God. What’s great about the second half of the book is how it teaches us to pursue this higher calling as believers through study of scripture and prayer.
For those who have already finished “The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi” and enjoyed the teaching of Rabbi Jason, “Breakthrough” is an encouraging next step which can help you grow in your personal walk with the Lord.
